Carelessly looking across the wide areas of Yellow Waters one may see hundreds of these ducks without noticing a single one. They sit in large flocks along the water not moving very much, neither being noisy. It looks strange as normally ducks are busy with several things, just like any bunch of animals. But the explanation is easy: They don't feed at daytime. Once the night comes down they fly away from the water to grase more inland. It's a bit sad one doesn't see the interesting plumes here very well, the plumes the bird was named after. |
