Hooded Plover

Hooded Plovers
Call me an idiot, but to me, most seabirds look the same. They all are brown or black from the upper side and white from the underparts. So I feel lucky to see that little fellow looks clearly different and is easy to identify. Plates along the Great Ocean Walk inform the visitor Hooded Plovers were vulnerable, one should watch out and not disturb them. Indeed, we have seen only this couple and it did have at least one chick I could figure out from the distance - which is nothing less than a miracle considering the perfect camouflage of young shorebirds. But that day, I did not take my big, heavy camera along as the walk was announced as a demanding one. So I only could do pretty bad pics with an old, but easy camera. Bad luck.
