Yes, we've had a couple of fires before - enough to have stopped counting long ago. And I do promise: that's the last one I published on this website. It's probably different from all the other ones anyway: it is a planned one. The top end of Australia is endangered enough to enjoy a regular fire management. Every piece of land gets burned down each second year to remove the fuel. The same way it was done by the Aboriginals since thousands of years. This part of the country is quite safe of uncontrolled fire now. I don't know really much about the matter, but regarding the 2002/2003 season it looks like the Queensland people should send their experts to NT and learn of the experience. |
