Australian Magpie

White-backed Australian Magpie Australian Magpie

Australian Magpies can be found pretty much everywhere in Australia. And yes, their look is somewhat like an European Magpie. But their voice is so much better! They have a wonderful warm, melodious voice and I enjoy remarking their German name suits them much better. The translation is 'flute bird'. And yes, they sing like a flute or clarinet.

The Black-backed race lives pretty much everywhere in Australia, also around Binna Burra in Lamington National Park. This one enjoys the last sun beams in a cool evening. In Victoria I felt myself surrounded by specimen of the white-backed race and managed better pictures.
