The Tropicbird with a couple of species is widely spread across the tropical seas. But this was my first encounter with the Red-tailed Tropicbird. They nested amongst the bungalows in the resort without caring much for the people observing and gazing.
Mainly they are afraid of are the Fregate birds, but I'm not sure any Frigate birds inhabit the island of Lady Elliot. This chick was found unattended by it's parents, so I think it was now too large for predators, so both parents could go for food. |
