Myrtle Beech

Myrtle Beech trunk

A tree that really impressed me: the Myrtle Beech. Elder specimen really look like the enchanted trees in fairy tales. And in fact, their family is a really old one with their members shrinking in number since millions of years now.

The tree is a handsome one, so I was surprised to see their leaves are pretty small - something one would not expect in places with reliable water supply where I found them. That fungus on sees below sitting on the twigs is not yet identified, but the tree lives in a moor.
